The Pantech Element is Pantech’s first stab at a tablet and by taking risks they set themselves apart immediately. The Element is waterproof and has a 4:3 aspect ratio, two features that haven't been seen before on the market saturated with tablets. The Element is the first tablet to be IP57 certified, meaning it can be under 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes without damage. While it’s not a rugged tablet that can handle the elements, it can handle a drop into the sink or a puddle. One reason it’s waterproof is the covers over all of the ports. Make sure they’re fully closed when not using them to keep them protected. The Element measures 8.36 by 6.12 by 0.42, giving it a distinct square look. While the 4:3 aspect ratio shouldn't change much as far as graphics, it does make a few things fit a little differently, for example the keyboard takes up more room on the screen and HD videos don’t fit the screen as naturally.

The Element has Android 3.2 and has a promise to upgrade to Honeycomb in the near future. Pantech mostly kept the interface pure Android, only adding a few tweaks here and there. The dual core 1.5GHz Qualcomm APQ8060 and 1GB of RAM makes it extremely smooth and sleek. The Element’s memory is broken into a 12.33GB of free memory and 770MB of memory dedicated for apps. The 6400mAh battery has a rated standby time of 25 days and should easily get you through a day without a recharge, even using AT&T 4G service. The 5 megapixel camera takes great pictures with extremely sharp detail. The camera also has 720p video capture. Connect your tablet using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or HDMI. Use the front facing 2 megapixel camera to take portrait photos or video chat.

We recommend if you plan on using your Element for business or heavy typing to have a Bluetooth keyboard. While the onscreen keyboard is easy to use, it’s much easier in general to use a physical keyboard when doing a lot of typing.
