Law Firm Establishes Teacher of the Year Award for Excellent Teachers in South Hampton Roads

A Virginia Beach law firm recently established a Teacher of the Year Award for excellent teachers in Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Suffolk. The award is available to both public and private school teachers.

The Virginia Beach personal injury law firm of Shapiro, Cooper, Lewis & Appleton will recognize and honor the top elementary school, middle school and high school teachers who teach in the Southside Hampton Roads cities of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake or Suffolk.

The award is available to both public and private school teachers, and three teachers will be selected for each division -- elementary, middle, and high school. The top Tidewater teachers in each division will receive grand prizes of $1,000, with an additional $1,000 being awarded to the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for the teacher's school. The runners-up will receive $500 awards. Other nominees will receive honorable mention, and all teachers named will be recognized for their excellence in news releases.

The Virginia Beach personal injury law firm created this award because the attorneys believe that in order to have a great education system; you need to have great teachers. In order to have great teachers, you need to put a spotlight on teachers who are performing superbly at their job. The attorneys appreciate this since the majority of them are products of the Virginia education system, both public and private.

Fellow teachers, supervisors, parents, students or any other interested individual may nominate a teacher for the award. The firm asks that you keep your recommendation confidential and do not share it with the teacher nominated. Self-submitted nominations will not be accepted.

An individual who nominates a teacher must submit the nominated teacher's name on a completed Teacher Nomination Form (click here to get the form). On the nomination form, describe in 200 words or fewer why your nominee should be selected. Describe the teacher's innovative teaching style, as well as his or her dedication to teaching. In addition, you may submit attachments containing anything that might help highlight the teacher's accomplishments. Please limit attachments to 5 pages max and 1 megabyte of information saved in either .pdf or .jpeg format.

The deadlines for submitting a Teacher Nomination Form is April 1, 2012. The winners will be announced on June 1, 2012.
