Chicago, Ill. / A Chicago based class action attorney today formally invited President Obama to a town hall meeting to hear the stories of ordinary Americans impacted by the banking crisis.
"The country has heard your soaring rhetoric... it has also seen you invite... bank CEO's to the White House for closed door meetings," writes Jay Edelson in a two-page letter to President Obama. "The country needs clear and unambiguous leadership."
Edelson, a leading class action attorney and managing partner at Edelson McGuire, has sued several banks, including JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM), for suspending or canceling existing home credit lines after they received billions in taxpayer funded bailout money.
"In a growing number of instances, these credit lines act as the only remaining safety net to everyday Americans, who are trying to put kids through college, pay rising heath care costs or simply make ends meet," Edelson writes. "These very banks have done this at precisely the same time that they have made available to the public other forms of credit (e.g. credit cards) which, as we all know, are much more expensive for small businesses and individuals."
In the letter Edelson asks President Obama to be the featured guest at a town hall he is organizing to "listen to the stories of the average person..."
He goes on to write "I am confident that, in the end, you will join leaders of both parties to demand true accountability."
